Has your flame for God gone out? Are you a Christian in name only? Do you say one thing about your walk with God, but do another? Will your example lead others to a living relationship with Jesus? What will it take for you to get right with God again?

These are some tough questions, but we must examine our own hearts and repent from a lukewarm attitude towards our Savior. Let’s ask ourselves the first question, “Has my flame for God gone out?” If so, why has it gone out? Usually it is because of sin issues, and sin issues come in all shapes and sizes. But no matter the shape and size of the sin, without repentance it just produces more sin, and sin separates us from God.

But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear”, Is. 59:2.

Are you a Christian in name only? Unfortunately many people are. I remember years ago, we were hosting a particular team from a Church in the States. And I had asked the team members to share how they came to Christ. We were listening to these wonderful God encounters that lead to the salvation of these people until we came to one of the co-leaders of the team. And this person shared in front of everyone that her salvation was a private matter. We all knew immediately what that meant. This person that was asked to be an assistant team leader was not a true believer, but in name only. So it is better that you deal with this question now, and in the privacy of your own home, then in front of a group of people. Because just as it happened to this woman, your sin of unbelief will find you out.

Another reason why your flame is dim is that you say one thing concerning your faith, but what you do does not line up with your words. In other words, you’re living a lie. And according to the Word, truth sets you free, see John 8:33. And living a lie keeps you in bondage.

I was ministering at a Church and was giving an altar call to receive Jesus, and all these people started to raise their hands to make a decision to receive Jesus as Savior. I felt impressed to turn to the choir which was quite large, and one by one they started to raise their hands to give their lives to Christ. I could tell by the silence in the congregation that the people were surprised that these people were not already saved. But I see this all too often, members within the choir talk, or in this case, they sing the right words, but their hearts are far from right relationship with God. Obviously, you need to deal with this foundational truth first.

And let me be frank here with you, it is not enough to know about God. It’s not enough to believe that there is a God, for even demons believe that there is a God, they know there is a God. But they had rejected, turned their backs against God in rebellion with lucifer, and then it was too late for them, and they were eternally lost. You don’t want to be caught in the end of your life thinking you’re right with God because after all you attend a local fellowship or are involved in service at a local Church, and then hear Jesus say to you, “I don’t know you, depart from Me.”

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Matt. 7:21-23.

Another question to ask yourself is, “Will my example lead people to receive Jesus as their Savior?” Once, a young man came with us on a mission trip, and after he had been back at his home in the USA I noticed he had posted an ungodly post on social media. I immediately sent this young man a private message and asked him why he had done this. His response was lame and said he did this so that his lost friends would be able to identify with him and that when they needed prayer they would turn to him for help. I responded to this weak excuse and said that at this point if his friends wanted someone to pray with them that he would be the last choice, or not even a choice to turn to in a time of need.  People recognize hypocrisy when they see it. And the Bible is clear we are not to blend into the World, but we are to be separate from it.

“A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them”, Matt. 7: 18-20.

And for the final question, “What will it take for you to get right with God again?” The answer is repentance. This is more than feeling sorry because your sin has found you out, but that you ask God for forgiveness and make the decision to repent, make a 180 degree turn and never return to this sin again. And this is what it takes to get back into right standing with him –repentance.

“Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord”, Acts 3:19.

  1. Good morning Becky, thank you for this word. My church has started a Daniel fast and I am reading the scriptures provided in this message. The verse mentioned in Matt 17:18 – 20, I read is Jesus rebuking the demon from a child oppressed. Is this correct or where can I find the verse for the good tree mentioned here? Please and thanks

  2. Hi Becky, Pauline here I have been a Christian from the age of 59 and I am now 68 I have learnt much and still have a lot to learn. My Faith in the last two years has Improved so much, that this really pleases me, I have visions and have seen horses, mountains with water running down below, really awesome feeling, to know God show’s me these visions, I have to say that I have not heard God’s voice and would love to hear from him, my understanding at my stage that I have with God is to Improve on this, the church that I go to here in the South Island of New Zealand is my home Church and really love getting Involved with various areas of Study.
One area that I feel I need to work on, is going out and healing people in need and I have to say I am very shy of this, as I am on my own, actually I shouldn’t say that God is always there with us, and I know it’s my weakness not God’s, I feel this in my heart to help others, as I see so many people hurting it really show’s in their face.
Another area is Abundance to receive as I am such a giver I am struggling financial I have to look at why am not receiving, I believe the Enemy has something to do with this. Pauline

    1. Pauline, I believe God knows what’s really in our hearts. You appear to be growing in your with with Him. Continue to press into the Word of God, and pray in the Spirit, spend quiet time with Him. Seek the Father’s heart of compassion for these people that are hurting. When you see them in pain ask to pray with them. You might be afraid at first but in time, with practice you will get over this. Meditate on the fact, that it is selfish of us to with hold prayer from people. Your stepping out of your comfort zone and being willing to ask to pray with someone may be the very thing that wins these individuals to the Lord, and you might just be their last opportunity to get right with God. Think about it for a while. I don’t believe you desire that. I sense in your note here that you desire God’s will and best for your life and those around you. Blessings, Becky

  3. I absolutely LOVE how you speak the truth! You bear the fruit of walking in and out the truth of the word. Thank you for being an example of a true believer. Helps me to keep going knowing there is so much more to this walk and reading testimonies of how God will use a life surrendered to touch and bring healing others. Thank you.

    1. Jennifer, thank you for your kind words of support. I am grateful that I can be an encouragement to you to press towards the mark of your high calling. Blessings,Becky :O)

  4. God is good. just wish he would communicate with us more often. It’s so hard not hearing from him. And asking for healing, that’s hard to get as well.

    1. Steve, like everything else we need to train ourselves to recognize the voice of God. I teach you how in my second work, Greater Than Magic, the Supernatural Power of Faith. And for healing the latest work, The Healing Creed will help you how to believe for this. Blessings, Becky
