Is healing power just for healers? This is a good question, and one that I get asked often. The answer is no. Healing power is for everyone that believes.

According to 1 Corinthians 12 there is a ministry gift called, gifts of healings. This is a gift of the Holy Spirit given as He wills to give to an individual. This person may or may not end up behind a pulpit. But regardless, wherever they go healing follows them.

1 Corinthians 12:4-11 tells us concerning the gifts of the Spirit, “There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:  for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,  to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.”

I see some frequent errors in the body of Christ that need to be clarified concerning the administering of healing.

1. These 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit, including the gifts of healings are given to individuals as the Spirit wills. In other words, we cannot just decide that we are going to have a healing ministry. This is a specific calling of God on an individual’s life. This calling is irrevocable, and is for the benefit of others.

2. Not everyone is called to have a healing ministry, but all believers in Christ Jesus are called to exercise their everyday faith and lay hands on the sick for healing.

Mark 16: 17-18 says, “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Our physical well-being is so important to the Lord that He provided more than one way for us  to be supernaturally healed.

1. By an individual called by the Holy Spirit to operate in the ministry of healing.

2. Or through our own faith to believe for our own healing or for the healing of another by the laying on of hands.

The healing power of the Holy Spirit is for both the healing minister, and for the individual who will exercise their faith and believe in His power to heal.

  1. My name is Legu and seeing you on Sid Roth’s program I am writing for special healing prayer over
Constant bleeding just like having menstruation. I am 73 yrs old..

    1. Legu,
In the name of Jesus’ I speak to whatever is going on in your physical body. I speak to the source to be healed and to stop bleeding. If something is torn it is supernaturally mended, if there are growths that they shrivel up and die at the source and be eliminated by the power of Holy Spirit, whatever the cause it is healed. In Jesus’ name, amen.

  2. I think of this in the same way I think of the some of the other gifts — like evangelism. Some are gifted with evangelism, and can win huge numbers to Christ, but that doesn’t mean that the rest of us Christians are off the hook when it comes to witnessing to our family, neighbors, friends, colleagues. We’re all supposed to be sharing our faith. And, speaking of faith, that’s another spiritual gift, but we’re ALL supposed to exercise faith.

So, we have those with the gift of healing, and then every Christian can pray for others to be healed, but what about James 5, where we’re told to call the elders of the church? Is there some sort of special power involved here, with the church leadership? Our daughter was healed when the elders anointed and prayed over her, but my husband felt a surge of power when one particular elder prayed. So, it made me wonder if the healing came from his prayer, or from the corporate prayers of all the elders

    1. Yes, Karen it does say to go to the elders, but not all elders fulfill the biblical requirements to be in this position. In Titus 1:5-9 it says, “For this reason I left you in Crete, that you would set in order what remains and appoint elders in every city as I directed you, namely, if any man is above reproach, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, not accused of dissipation or rebellion. For the [a]overseer must be above reproach as God’s steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not pugnacious, not fond of sordid gain, but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self-controlled, holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.” It says they are suppose to hold fast the faithful word, sad to say, not all elders are strong in the faith concerning healing and are full of doubt when the people come to them. What you experienced is one that was full of faith verses others that were not. I hope this helps.
