There Are No Shortcuts to Ministry Preparations

I received this prayer request, and I share it with you because I receive similar requests everywhere I go. This is a sincere request to be used and prepared by God. “Prayer Request for Jesus to lead me step by step into my calling. I’m not exactly sure what I’m to do in Christ. I’m praying for Jesus to download the bible into my spirit, to help me remember scriptures. I want to help all of Gods people. But asking that I be fully equipped in all I need to do so. I’m asking for fear to be removed from me, to do Gods will. I pray for confidence to stand with my head held up high & can confess what Jesus has done for me to everyone. Lord, please advance me in your Kingdom…I’m ready Lord.”

My heartfelt response is more of biblical instruction than it is of prayer. But I know this prayer request, I’ve heard it many times before. And God’s people need to be taught that there are no shortcuts to ministry preparations.

I respond, “I am responding to your request for prayer. 1. God has a plan and a purpose for you. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope,” Jeremiah 29:11, (NKJV).

2. “I’m praying for Jesus to download the bible into my spirit, to help me remember scriptures.” It doesn’t work like this. Joshua 1:8, (NKJV) says, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” And 2 Timothy 2:15 tells us to, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth,” (NKJV).

3. You write, “I want to help all of Gods people. But asking that I be fully equipped in all I need to do so.” God’s Word tells us concerning the ministry gifts, “the 5-fold ministry, apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers, and that they are called and appointed by God, (see Eph 4:11). It is God who appoints people into these positions. There are 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit, “the Gifts of the Spirit, the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healings, working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, tongues and the interpretation of tongues, and that these gifts are distributed as the Holy Spirit wills.” (See 1 Co 12.) There are 9 fruits of the Spirit, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23).

4. We have the armor of God, “ Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. ¹¹ Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. ¹² For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. ¹³ Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

¹⁴ Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, ¹⁵ and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; ¹⁶ above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. ¹⁷ And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; ¹⁸ praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— Ephesians 6:10-18, (NKJV).

My point is this, there are no shortcuts for ministry, He is constantly preparing and perfecting us for His next assignment, but we all have a part to play in our own preparedness. We are to study His Word, pray in faith, live like we believe, be a doer of His Word, and activate our faith. I pray that You, like this woman are guided by the leading of His Spirit for all that He has instore for you.
