When Does Healing Power Take Effect?
After you have prayed for someone for healing, when does the healing power take effect? This is a good question and it is one that causes disagreement within the body of Christ. It can also cause doubt and unbelief to form if not understood properly.
Why is this important to understand? Because sometimes people receive immediately, instantly, miraculously, and other times, people receive their healing little by little, or what I call progressively.
But there are a couple of foundational truths that will help to add clarity to this question.
- According to Isaiah 53:4-5, Jesus already paid the price with His atoning blood so we are already healed. We were healed the moment Jesus shed His blood at the whipping post for all healing. “Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy]. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.” AMPC.
- Just as with any other promise of God, faith must be activated for the promise to manifest And sometimes those manifestations are instant and other times they are progressive. For example, according to the Word if you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, you are instantly born-again. See Romans 10:9-10, and John 3:3. And spiritually you are born-again, but in the natural realm it takes time for the evidence to manifest. Some sins fall off of the new believer immediately, others they have to exercise their new found faith to be free from these sins. But the person is still born-again. Now, let’s look at healing in this light. The Bible says that if you believe you will lay hands on the sick and they will recover, see Mark 16:18. Whether you lay hands upon yourself or someone else does this for you the healing power is released within your physical body and you are already healed, but at times your faith is weaker then you would like to admit, or for devilish reasons the enemy fights against your healing, like he fights against a new believer with sin issues, and you will have to exercise your faith muscles and fight the enemy for the manifestation of your healing, but the healing power has already been released, and healing has already been provided when Jesus shed His blood at the whipping post.
