We should never underestimate the power of our redemption. Jesus paid a heavy price to deliver us from satan and all his wicked works. He willingly suffered for you and for me. Let’s ponder the intensity of His suffering for our redemption.

The whippings that Jesus received because of us and for us were intense. Let’s focus on the intensity to gain understanding of what He had to endure for our healing.

Psalm 22 is a graphic prophecy about the anguish that Jesus would suffer for us. Let’s read verses 14-19 together and open our spiritual ears and listen to the cry of His heart to the Father.

I am poured out like water, and all My bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; it has melted within Me, My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and My tongue clings to My jaws; You have brought me to the dust of death. For dogs have surrounded Me; the congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet; I can count all My bones. They pierce My hands and My feet; I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me. They divide My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots. But You, O Lord, do not be far from Me; O My strength, hasten to help Me!

Jesus had been betrayed, falsely accused, arrested, and interrogated during the night at an illegal, secret trial. He suffered from great emotional anguish to the point of bleeding and was also sleep deprived.

He was abandoned, criticized, cursed at, devalued, humiliated, mocked, ridiculed, spit upon, and stripped physically and emotionally, He had no strength left; He was literally spent.

He was in excruciating pain because they beat upon Him, ripped His beard off His face, pierced His skull with a crown of thorns, whipped Him mercilessly, nailed his hands and feet to the Cross, and His bones were dislocated from the weight of the crossbeam that He had to carry and from the position He was strung up on the Cross. His heart was overworked, stressed out, and at the point of death. And yet, He didn’t give up, He completed His mission—your redemption.

Regarding the severity of being whipped for our healing it says in verse 17, “I can count all My bones.” What horrible suffering! The bones in His body were exposed. He could see and count them. For Him to be able to count His bones, that means His skin, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves had to be ripped apart. His blood was spilled as they whipped Him to pieces for payment for our spiritual, emotional, and physical healing.

May we never again underestimate, take for granted the power of our redemption, and what Jesus suffered for us and because of us.
