The Baptism of the Holy Spirit, Tongues and Interpretation of Tongues

During a Holy Spirit conference, a pastor from a very conservative denomination sat in the front row. I could sense he felt out of place, but when he was presented with a clear Biblical presentation he was able to believe and receive that day. And his ministry was forever changed.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of praying in tongues, and the interpretation of tongues continues to be a topic of contention within the body of Christ. I believe this is because satan is afraid of the supernatural power that is released when God’s people activate the power of the Holy Spirit and pray in their supernatural languages. So, he constantly stirs up confusion and strife via the lack of teaching and training concerning these very powerful weapons of spiritual warfare that God has given to us. Let’s clear up the confusion and see what the Bible has to say about them.

In the book of Acts before Jesus ascended into heaven He was teaching the apostles about things to come. He told them of another baptism, the baptism of the Holy Spirit that would soon come upon them, (see Acts 1:5). He told them they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them, (see Acts 1:8).

And in the second chapter of Acts we read of the Day of Pentecost when suddenly a noise came from heaven like a violent rushing wind and it filled the whole house, and tongues of fire rested upon them and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving the utterance. (See Acts 2: 1-4.)

Most Christians believe that this took place, but many believe that mighty move of the Holy Spirit was for the early Church and not for believers today. Let’s look to the Scriptures for clarity.

The Apostle Peter declared to the onlookers of this amazing event starting with verse 14 that what they witnessed is what the Prophet Joel prophesied about saying that in the Last Days a mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit would come forth on all people. Did the world end with the early Church? No. This was referring to a new dispensation of the Holy Spirit, which did not end, but just began.

Peter continues to teach and tells the listeners what they need to do in verse 38. He tells them they need to repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and that they will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. And he goes on to tell them in the next verse who the promise of the Holy Spirit is for. He says to them, “For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” (See Acts 2:39.) Peter includes us when he says, “and to all who are afar off” in the promise to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Now, that we laid the foundation, let’s continue on and see what else the Word has to say about the baptism of the Holy Spirit, tongues and the interpretation of tongues.

The Holy Spirit:

  • The Holy Spirit is a good gift from the Father, and not an evil one. It says in Luke 11:11-14, “If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?”

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit:

  • The baptism of the Holy Spirit is powerful and reserved for the believer in Jesus Christ only. It would literally destroy an unregenerated spirit. It says in Luke 5:37-38, “And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
  • This baptism is for any and all believers in Jesus Christ.  For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” (Acts 2:39).
  • Through His baptism we receive His power, Acts 1:8 says, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
  • The initial evidence of being baptized in the Holy Spirit is that you will pray in tongues. As it happens in Acts 2:4, “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

Tongues and the Interpretation of Tongues:

  •  Tongues and its co-partner, the Interpretation of Tongues are spiritual gifts given to us by the Holy Spirit, and not the devil. (See 1 Cor. 12:10.)

The Purpose of the Gift of Tongues:

  •  The Holy Spirit prays through us when we don’t know how. “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” (Rom. 8:26-27).
  • Our spirit prays for the unknown. “For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.” (1 Cor. 14:2).
  • To build ourselves up. “He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.” (1 Cor. 14:4).
  • So supernatural power can flow through us. “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38).

The Purpose for the Interpretation of Tongues:

  • When we are in a public setting we need the gift of Interpretation of Tongues to be in operation so that the supernatural message can be understood by all. 1 Corinthians 14:13 gives us instruction concerning this situation, “Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret.”

I believe, just like the pastor from the conservative denomination believed and received after he heard a clear Biblical presentation concerning the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the gift of tongues and the interpretation of tongues that many others from mainline denominations will be open to receive when they hear the truth presented with clarity.

Be Ready to Do the Work of an Evangelist

We, followers of Jesus Christ are charged in 2 Timothy 4:2-5 to “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.  But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”

The body of Christ has shirked her duty and placed a burden on the local pastors that does not belong to them. It was never the soul responsibility of pastors to reach the lost that is the work of an evangelist. The pastor is a shepherd.

In the natural, a shepherd cannot produce lambs, only sheep can do that. A shepherd tends, feeds, and protects the flock, and raises them to produce more lambs, and occasionally has to go after a lost member of the flock. And in spiritual terms, a pastor tends to the needs of the congregation, disciples believers in the Word, protects them from wolves in sheep’s clothing, and from false doctrines, encourages the weak ones, and equips the congregants to do the work of the ministry so they can win people to Christ.

In 2 Corinthians 5:20, we are called ambassadors for Christ, and we have a message for the lost, “Be reconciled to God”. Yes, each one of us are commissioned to the ministry of reconciliation, (see 2 Cor. 5:18). But in these last days, the people are less willing to enter into our meetings, so we need to go out to where the lost people are and be willing to do the work of an evangelist and win the people to Christ.

And we need to remember that when we are out doing the work of an evangelist that no matter how gruff people are on the outside they all have a deep inner need and desire to know the one true God, Jesus Christ.

Earlier this year, I had my hair done in a salon in NYC. The man who attended me started to tear himself down in front of me. He then said to me that he was a real mutt. As he confessed these negative words over himself I heard myself say out loud to him, “No, you’re not.”

My words caught his attention, and jolted his spirit. He just stopped and looked at me. I continued to tell him that people are created in the mirror image of God. And that He created us with a purpose and a destiny to fulfill. I continued to testify to him and to the others who listened in on our conversation about the goodness of our Lord.

My boldness touched this man’s heart, and before I knew it he stopped what he was doing and reached out and hugged me. The Spirit of the Lord broke down through the barriers and he opened up to me and shared his difficult past. And the more I spoke the more he wanted to hear. He was captivated by the Word of the Lord.

The others in the salon broke into the conversation and began to share their life stories and present challenges. They were all hearing about Jesus in a non-threatening environment, and in a new way.

I openly shared with them that we are not to seek after religion, but relationship with Jesus Christ. This was obviously something they had not heard before.

When the man was done with my perm, the owner asked if I would please pray for her business and for all the employees. I agreed, and we all joined hands in a circle as I began to pray. Openly and unashamed, I pleaded the blood of Jesus over the owner, the business and over each one of the workers and their families. I prayed that each one would come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. I prayed that a mighty move of the Holy Spirit would break forth in that salon, and that even the customers would sense the presence of the Lord in that place and be changed.

And the man who attended me stood right next to me as I prayed. He squeezed my hand ever-so tightly, in agreement with every word spoken.

When I finished praying with the owner and the employees, some of the customers stepped forward for prayer.

We live in an age where society tries to gag Christians, and demand that we no longer use the name of Jesus Christ. The apostles experienced the same, but they would not be silent. They continued to boldly proclaim the name of Jesus and witness to the people. And so should we.

With a bold witness, I did the work of an evangelist and ushered in the presence of Jesus Christ into the hair salon in the Bronx of NYC. And the people heard the Good News, they believed and received that day.

3 Reasons Why Christians Have Authority over Sickness and Disease

I receive many questions from people concerning healing. One frequent question is, “Do Christians really have authority over sickness and disease?” According to the Bible the answer is yes. But I want to teach you why we have authority over all sickness and disease.

To begin with, sickness and disease are made up of tiny living organisms called bacterias and viruses. Let’s take a closer look at these.

The American Lung Association says that “Bacteria and viruses are living organisms that cause diseases”. 1

What is the definition of an organism?  “An individual form of life, such as a plant, animal, bacterium, protist, or fungus; a body made up of organs, organelles, or other parts that work together to carry on the various processes of life.”2

Once, I asked the Lord for a simple explanation as to why we have authority over all sickness and disease. And He answered me with the following vision and Scripture.

I saw myself looking into a microscope, and on the plate of glass being examined were sickness and disease. The Lord asked me to tell Him what I saw. I told Him that I saw them moving. He explained to me that is because sickness and disease are made up of microscopic living organisms that move, and get inside the body and make people sick.

He then gave me the following verse from Genesis 1:28, ““Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

According to this verse we have been given dominion over everything that lives and moves on this earth, including sickness and disease. To dominate means to control, govern, or rule by superior authority or power. 3 He has given us dominion over these tiny microscopic organisms.

What about bacteria? “Bacteria are organisms made up of just one cell. They are capable of multiplying by themselves, as they have the power to divide. Their shapes vary, and doctors use these characteristics to separate them into groups.

Bacteria exist everywhere, inside and on our bodies. Most of them are completely harmless and some of them are very useful. But some can cause disease, either because they end up in the wrong place in the body or simply because they are ‘designed’ to invade us.”4

Ponder upon this phrase concerning harmful bacteria for a while, “designed to invade us”.  Spiritually speaking this sounds like a weapon of warfare. What does God’s Word say about weapons that are formed to harm us? It says, “No weapon formed against us shall prosper.” (See Isaiah 54:17.) Our Lord promises us that these weapon formed against us, including harmful bacteria shall not prosper.

What about a virus?

A virus is “an ultramicroscopic (20 to 300 nm in diameter), metabolically inert, infectious agent that replicates only within the cells of living hosts, mainly bacteria, plants, and animals: composed of an RNA or DNA core, a protein coat, and, in more complex types, a surrounding envelope.”5

Did you notice in the definition that a virus is called an infectious agent? Again, this is something to cause us harm. And according to James 1:17 God does not give us things that will harm us. It says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”  Jesus makes it clear in John 10:10 just who these things come from. “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”  The thief is satan and he uses his weapons of sickness and disease to harm us. God does not give us infectious agents.

Science teaches us that there are different types of infectious agents. Infectious agents come in many shapes and sizes. Bacteria and protozoa are microscopic one-celled organisms, while viruses are even smaller. Fungi grow like plants and helminths resemble worms.6

What hope does the Lord give us concerning these infectious agents? He says in Luke 10:19 “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

3 Biblical reasons why Christians have authority over all sickness and disease:

  1. He gives us dominion over all living things on this earth, including microscopic organisms that can make us sick.
  2. God promises us that weapons formed against us, including harmful bacteria designed to invade us shall not prosper.
  3. Jesus Christ gives to us all authority over satan and his wicked works, including infectious agents called viruses.

Use Wisdom in These Last Days

It appears that we are living in the Last Days, and the Scriptures caution us to be on the alert concerning spiritual pitfalls. We are warned about the rise of false leaders bringing in false teachings and doctrines of demons. We are told to be in the world, but not of the world, to guard ourselves from sexual immorality and all forms of ungodliness, to study the Word, to be filled with the Holy Spirit, to be passionate and not lethargic towards Jesus, to keep our hearts pure before the Lord and to remain faithful until the end. Yet, we continue to see Christians fall into foolish practices and fulfill the end time’s prophecy that many will fall away from the faith.

Once while teaching at a Holy Spirit conference, a young woman came up during ministry time and said to me, “Lay your hand on me, I want your passion for Jesus. I want what you have.” I looked at her with all sincerity and said, “You can have what I have, and even more. But I can’t lay my hand on you, and cause you to be passionate for Christ. You have to make a quality decision to pursue Him for yourself.”

There are certain things that we can release into other people by the laying on of hands, such as healing, deliverance, Baptism of the Holy Spirit, releasing the simple prophetic gift to see dreams and visions, but a passion for Christ, no. And I will add that touching a person with a special anointing by God that is walking in a specific calling does not guarantee someone an easy ticket into the same type of ministry. An example of this is the practice of grave soaking, which is a doctrine of demons and Christians should not take part in this type of activity. We are not to fix our eyes on people, dead or alive but on Jesus Christ alone.

It’s natural to desire a special anointing, but we need to realize that it is God who appoints and anoints an individual for a special calling. And that person has undergone a time of preparation. Before they are released into the ministry, they are led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit to test the motives of their heart. And if and when they pass this test, they are then released into the ministry.  (See Luke 4). We need to understand that anointing is given freely by God, but it is not cheap.

How do we protect ourselves from satan’s schemes to lead us astray? How do we ready ourselves during these last days?  The answers to these questions are found within a parable that Jesus taught concerning 10 virgins; 5 were wise and the other 5 were foolish, see Matthew 25: 1-13.

The prudent were ready to meet their bridegroom, even when the announcement of his arrival came unexpectedly during the midnight hour. They each carried their own lamp filled with oil. And because they did not know the exact timing of his arrival, they each brought an extra flask of oil to make sure they could find their way through the darkness.

Now, the foolish virgins were not ready when they heard the shout to come and meet the bridegroom. They did not even have oil for their lamps, and asked those that were prepared to give them some of their oil. But to their dismay the wise virgins declined their request and told them to go and buy their own oil. And while they went to purchase the much needed oil, the bridegroom came and those that were ready went with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut.

Later, the 5 foolish virgins came and asked the Lord to open the door. But it was too late, the door was already closed, and they were left behind. And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.”

And there is a warning in verse 13 for all of us, “Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.”

How then do we protect ourselves from being led astray and left behind? We need to be like the wise virgins and prepare ourselves spiritually now to meet the Lord whenever He calls.

These things prevented the foolish virgins from entering into the wedding feast.

1. They were not prepared to meet the bridegroom.

2. They did not purchase oil for their lamps.

3. The Lord did not know them.

What do we need to protect and prepare ourselves?

1. Salvation is the first step to prepare to meet Jesus. “Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3).

2. The study of the Word to teach us how to live faithfully. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalms 119:105).

3. The Holy Spirit to empower our lamps. “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8).

4. An intimate relationship with the Lord to protect us from a religious spirit.  “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.  Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’  And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” (Matt 7:21-23).

May we be wise and not foolish during these last days.

Biblical Ways to Overcome Addiction

So many Christians are in bondage to addictive behaviors, they want to be free, but don’t know how. One such young woman came forward for ministry at a healing conference in Kentucky. Her addiction was cigarettes and it had control over her. But she wanted deliverance and freedom. I laid hands upon her and renounced the spirit of addiction in her, and declared that from now on when she would try to smoke a cigarette she would start to vomit. And she put it to the test. As soon as the service was over she ran outside and took a puff of a cigarette and her body immediately started to vomit on the Church steps. Her body now rejected what it once craved. But along with physical deliverance, her soul, mind and emotions, needed to be healed and renewed to remain free from the addiction.

You may be like this woman with an addiction to some type of sinful behavior and need deliverance and renewal of your mind.  So, here is a plan of action from the Scriptures to help you overcome any and all addictive behaviors.

  1. Before you can overcome an addiction you first have to admit that you have a problem and that it is a sin. James 5:16, instructs us to, “Confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.” (NASB)
  2. Make a quality decision that you will do whatever is necessary to be free from this ungodly behavior. There is a plan to freedom in James 4:7, “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (NKJV)

How do you submit to God and resist the devil?

  • Ask God for forgiveness. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”  1 John 1:9
  • Read the Bible and cleanse yourself spiritually.  “That He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word.” Ephesians 5:26
  • Listen to faith building messages. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17
  • Fast and pray for deliverance. “So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”” Mark 9:29
  • Pray in the Spirit to encourage yourself. “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.” Jude 1:20
  • Take control of your thoughts. “… Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5
  • Confess out loud the promises of God over yourself. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21
  • Keep your joy level strong. “Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”” Nehemiah 8:10
  • Be full of the Holy Spirit. “And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,  speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,  giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 5:18-20
  • Don’t take on stress or worry. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” Philippians 4:6
  • Be accountable and surround yourself with supportive people. “Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”” 1 Corinthians 15:33

A spirit of addition is out to control and destroy you. And to be free you have to make a quality decision that you will do whatever it takes to be delivered from its destructive power. If you will do these things on a daily basis, eventually you will break free from sinful and addictive behaviors. The enemy will flee from you, and the freedom you so desire will be yours.

2 Reasons Why Bad Things Happen to Good People

Do you wonder why bad things happen to good people? Jesus gives us the answer to this question in Scripture.

  1. In this world you will have tribulation, meaning difficult times.

Jesus says in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Tribulation entered into our earth when Adam and Eve decided to rebel against God and His ways. This original sin opened the door to satan and his evil ways and allowed corruption to enter into our world and into the human body as well.

Did you notice that in the midst of difficulties Jesus says to be of good cheer? This does not mean that we are to be happy because we are facing hard times, but because of what He does for us at Calvary we can walk in victory despite the hardships.

God did not create people to suffer, but sometimes we do suffer because we live in a fallen world.

So, if it is not God’s plan for people to suffer, then who is responsible?

2. Satan comes to steal, to kill and to destroy.

In John 10:10, Jesus clearly describes satan’s intentions, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”

God is not responsible for all the evil that is happening around us, satan is. And the devil is bent on our destruction. Jesus calls him a thief, who comes to steal God’s blessings from us.

According to Deuteronomy 28: 1-14, what are God’s blessings that he tries to steal?

  • Our identity in Christ.
  • Our spiritual authority.
  • Our dominion on this earth.
  • Divine favor.
  • The Lord’s good treasure that has been given to us.
  • The blessings of children, good harvest, and an increase in livestock.
  • Our daily needs being met abundantly.
  • Safe travels.
  • The blessing of our work and the fruit of our labor.
  • Our finances.
  • Good weather.
  • Divine protection from our enemies.

In 3 John 1:2, a prayer is recorded that reveals God’s heartfelt intentions for His people. “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”

When the Word of God is our standard we can discern why things are happening in life and who is responsible. If the situation is good and perfect then it comes from the Father up above, see James 1:17. And if a blessing in life is being stolen from us, like the life of a loved one via premature death from sickness, disease, a tragic accident or incident then we know that satan is the one responsible for the tragedy.

Knowing these 2 reasons why bad things happen to good people help us in the healing process.

The First Step to Be Healed

You’re a Christian, you’re sick and you need healing. You hear amazing healing testimonies about others, but struggle to receive it for yourself. Here is the most important step to take to be healed.

1. Understand your covenant rights as a Christian to be healed.

God says through His prophet Hosea 4:6a, “My People are destroyed for a lack of knowledge.” He goes on to say that His people even reject it. God’s people suffer in vain because we are malnourished spiritually concerning our covenant rights to be healed by the redemptive blood of Jesus Christ.

I met a woman in Chicago, Illinois that suffered needlessly for 25 years from a tethered spine. She was taught that healing was not for today and that it was His will for her to suffer. When she first walked into the healing service she was very weak and frail, and trembled from the tremendous pain. But when she heard the Biblical truth that Jesus shed His blood for her healing, she came forward to receive a healing touch and was instantly set free from 25 years of torturous pain and suffering.

Like this precious woman of God, unless you receive the revelation that supernatural healing is part of the blood covenant you have with the Father you will suffer, but when you hear the truth you will be set free to believe and receive.

The revelation that she heard and acted upon came from Isaiah 53: 4 -5 from the Amplified Version of the Bible, “”Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy]. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.”

Jesus paid the price for His people, and this includes you to be healed with His precious blood.

3 Rules For A Healthy Spiritual Heart

Are you aware that the condition of your spiritual heart effects your physical body? This is why God’s Word gives instruction in Proverbs 4:23 to Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. (NASB)

In the natural, when the physical heart is sick the rest of the body suffers. The same is true with the condition of the spiritual heart, except that it controls every area of our being; spirit, soul and body.

The spiritual heart is a vital organ and we need to diligently care for it. Here are 3 basic rules to maintain a healthy spiritual heart.

1. “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’This is the first commandment.” (Mark 12:30). NKJV

2. “And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:31). NKJV

3.  “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16). NASB

These are 3 basic ways to maintain a healthy spiritual heart that will allow the springs of life to flow through your spirit, soul, and physical body too.

The Secret to Living a Healthy Life

What’s the secret? God’s people continue their quest to obtain long life and good health with diet, exercise and supplements and still many continue to fall ill and die prematurely. Even though these are wise choices, they are not enough. What’s the secret to living a healthy life?

God reveals the secret to living a healthy life in Proverbs 4:20-22. He says, “My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh.”

We need to remember that we are spiritual beings that live inside physical bodies. And if we do not attend to our spiritual needs we will wear out and become weak spiritually and physically.

So how do we attend to our  spiritual needs?

1. Did you notice that  He says, “My son”? He is referring to a spiritual family member. If you aren’t a member yet, this is the first step to living a healthy life.

2.  He instructs us to attend to His words. We are to listen and do what the Word says to do.

3. He tells us to submit to His sayings, which means we are to yield or surrender to the will or authority and power of the Word of God.

4. Then He tells us to not allow biblical teachings to depart from our sight. We are to live life entwined with His teachings.

2 Steps to Use Your Faith Shield

The Lord Jesus has given you a supernatural shield called faith. This shield is to protect you and to help fight off the attacks of satan. But its not enough to just own this shield. You must activate its supernatural power for it to work. Do you know how to activate this power? Do you know how to use your shield of faith?

1. In order for it to protect you, you must choose to pick it up. All to often, this is where the battle is lost before it has a chance start. Until you take up your faith it cannot do its job and shield you. This is your first line of defense against the fiery darts of satan.

2. As the enemy throws his fiery darts towards you, move your shield to the area that needs protection. If your physical health is being attacked then move the shield to that area . How do you do this? Declare that you are healed in Jesus’ name, and put action behind these words. Speak and act like your healed.

If you will put this 2 step process into action you will start to see your faith shield work for you.

Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. Ephesians 6:16
