You don’t have to let fear push you around…anymore!

Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 23. There is no fear in love [dread does not exist]. But perfect (complete, full-grown) love drives out fear, because fear involves [the expectation of divine] punishment, so the one who is afraid [of God’s judgment] is not perfected in love [has not grown into a sufficient understanding of God’s love]. 1 John 4:18, (AMP).
  24. Don’t be afraid or intimidated by others, for God will bring everything out into the open and every secret will be told. Matthew 10:26, (TPT).

4 Steps to Overcome Discouragement

Discouragement partners with the spirit of death. And it’s a strong weapon the enemy will use against you–beware of its attachment to death itself. Are you fighting discouragement?

A lady wrote me the other night with the following need for prayer for a miracle. She shares, “My cancer returned after three years, and I feel so bad. I am going to undergo radiation and chemo in the next few days. I need prayer. Please, I need help to get new cells and lymph nodes, and complete healing and removal of all cancer cells in my body.”

This sister in the Lord received a negative medical report, and naturally discouragement follows right behind the negative words of “cancer returns.” And so too the spirit of fear floods her memories of the pain she experienced years ago with all the radiation and chemo treatments and procedures. Knowing she needs help to overcome this discouragement and the deadly attack against her life, she does the right thing and reaches out to someone who will encourage her in the faith to stand strong on the promise of God’s word, “by His stripes she is healed,” see Isiah 53:4-5.

Perhaps, you are in a similar situation as this woman and need help to get out of the realm of discouragement and find someone who will offer hope to trust God for a miracle. If so, you are not alone; many struggle to find a bit of encouragement these days. let’s face it, the news is gloomy, social media is filled with hate, and in general, people have become so negative.

So, where do God’s people find a word of hope? Right from the Source–God’s Word. And this is where we are going to turn to right now and search the Scriptures to fight off discouragement.

Let’s begin with a prayer directly to the Source of encouragement: “From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I” (Psalm 61:2 NIV).

Psalm 27:14 gives us biblical instruction on how to overcome discouragement: “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, wait, I say, on the Lord!” We are to wait on the Lord with hope, with expectancy, like a pregnant woman awaits the blessed day for the birth of her child.

Consider the word “wait” in a different manner, not just as a period of time passing by waiting for something to happen, but to wait to serve the Lord. Look at this well-known verse from Isaiah 40:31 in this way, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

As we serve the Lord with a true heart, our strength is renewed. We are filled with joy; and because joy is a supernatural strength, we become stronger as we serve Him. And to clarify what I mean by serving the Lord, it doesn’t mean to take on another task at your local place of fellowship, but to wait upon Him as follows:

Four Steps to Find Your Source of Encouragement
1. Believe God. “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.” John 14:1.

2. Worship Him in spirit and in truth. “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24.

3. Pray in the Spirit and encourage yourself. “Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church.” First Corinthians 14:4.

4. Perfect the love of God in you by His Word. “But if anyone obeys His word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in Him.” First John 2:5.

If you follow these simple steps, you will find your Source of encouragement in Christ and overcome the enemy’s power of discouragement.

Overcome Fear this Year

People fear many things such as death, sickness, disease, germs, darkness, lack of provision, being alone, rejection, bugs, spiders, bats, snakes, and the list goes on and on. Fear is very real, and it is more than a negative emotion, it’s spiritual. Let’s see what the authority of the Scriptures has to say concerning fear and how to overcome its rage against you, be encouraged with a Word from the Lord, and pray this prayer and get free from fear this coming year.

FEAR IS A SPIRIT

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind, 2 Tim. 1:7.

WHO DO WE WRESTLE AGAINST?

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places, Eph. 6:12.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO FEAR

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go, Joshua 1:9.

In righteousness you shall be established; you shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; and from terror, for it shall not come near you, Is. 54:14.

MEASURES TO TAKE TO OVERCOME FEAR

Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth, Col. 3:2.

Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you, 1 Pet. 5:7.

He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, 1 Cor. 14:4a.

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things, Phil. 4:8.

THE RIGHTEOUS IN CHRIST ARE RECREATED TO BE:

The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion, Prov. 28:1.

AUTHORITY OVER FEAR

Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you, Lk. 10:19.

GOD IS WITH YOU

The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? Ps. 118:6.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?, Rom. 8:31.

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Ps. 27:1.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand,’ Is. 41:10.

SEEK HIS PEACE

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus, Phil. 4:7.

WHAT GOD HAS GIVEN TO YOU INSTEAD OF FEAR

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid, Jn. 14:27.

DO NOT FEAR TOMORROW

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble, Matt. 6:34.

CAN FEARFUL THINGS SEPARATE YOU FROM THE LOVE OF GOD?

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord, Rom. 8:38-39.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love, 1 Jn. 4:18.

SEEK THE LORD AND BE DELIVERED FROM FEAR

I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears, Ps. 34:4.

A WORD OF THE LORD

And the Spirit of the Lord would say to you this day, “Why do you continue to live in fear? Do you not know that I am forever near? I will never leave you, nor forsake you. I have given My angels charge over you to protect you. I have sent My Son, Jesus to break the bondage of fear. So why do you continue to bind yourself to its wickedness? My Holy Spirit is with you to lead you and guide you into all truth. The truth in My Word will set you free. Come under the safety of My wings, do not leave the perimeters of My presence. Carry my presence with you wherever you go. I love you with an everlasting love, and its My perfect love that casts away all fear.” Thus is My word for you this day.

LET’S PRAY

Dear Holy Spirit,

Teach me how to be free from this spirit of fear, how to overcome the attacks of this evilness in my life. I seek You and Your deliverance this day.

In Jesus’ name, I pray,

Amen.

Scriptures to Overcome Anxiety, Fear & Worry

woman-sufferingHave you ever heard anyone say that someone’s anxiety, fear and worry are just in their head? In reality these are more than just mere thoughts, feelings, and imaginations gone wild. Anxiety, fear and worry are spiritual weapons used by the devil to destroy us. And they do start in the mind, as the enemy whispers fearful lies into people’s spiritual ears. This is why it is of utmost importance that we pay attention to what we are thinking about. What is feeding our thoughts? The Spirit of the Lord warns us  in 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 through Paul, For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. We are to take every thought into captivity, we are to think about what we are thinking about. Be on the alert for doubt-filled thoughts that go against God and His Word.

2 Timothy 1:7 reveals to us what fear really is. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. God’s Word tells us that fear is a  supernatural being, it is a spirit, an evil spirit.

And He has given us authority over such beings and their supernatural activities, Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you., Luke 10:19.

And 1 John 4:18 reminds us of the supernatural power of perfect love over fear, There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

But as stated earlier, we have to take every thought into captivity. We need to exercise Christ’s authority in us over our thoughts of fear. In order to do so we need to accept the advice from Philippians 4:8-9, Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.We are to capture fearful, negative, ugly thoughts and bind them up with the Word of God. Renew our minds with God’s promises, And do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of the mind, for you to prove what is the good and well-pleasing and perfect will of God.“, Romans 12:2.

Free yourself from worry about your daily needs. God is both able and willing to fulfill these needs for you,  Matthew 6:25-34 reads as follows, ““That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

“And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

With the redemptive power of the Lord overcome the fear of death. Hebrews 2:14-15 explains why we can be free from this fear, Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” And in Psalm 23:4 we are comforted by these well-known words, Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

God’s Word has this to say about the fear of evil people in these last days in Matthew 10:28, And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.We need to keep this is the forefront of our minds during these uncertain times that our Lord Jesus Christ is greater than our enemy, satan. And in 1 Peter 3:13-14, And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good?  But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.” Psalm 118:6 promises us that,The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?Deuteronomy 31:6 encourages us with these famous words,Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

And here are more Scriptures to meditate upon to overcome anxiety, fear, and worry.

  • In the multitude of my anxieties within me, your comforts delight my soul. Psalm 94:19.
  • Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken. Psalm 55:22.
  • Say to those who are fearful-hearted, “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come and save you.” Isaiah 35:4.
  • The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe. Proverbs 29:25.
  • When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet. Proverbs 3:24.
  • The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them. Psalm 34:7.
  • I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4.

4 Steps to Find Your Source of Encouragement

You may be struggling with discouragement today, and if this is you I want to share 4 steps to find your source of encouragement, so that you can overcome discouragement and enter into the supernatural realm of God’s encouragement.

A woman wrote me  with the following need for prayer for her miracle. She shared, “My cancer returned after three years and I feel so bad. I am going to undergo radiation and chemo in the next few days. I need prayer. Please, I need help to get new cells and lymph nodes, and complete healing and removal of all cancer cells in my body.”

This lady received a negative medical report, and naturally discouragement follows right behind  the negative words of “cancer returns.” And so too the spirit of fear floods her memories of the pain she experienced years ago with all the radiation and chemo treatments and procedures. Knowing she needs help to overcome this discouragement and the deadly attack against her life, she does the right thing and reaches out to someone who will encourage her in the faith to stand strong on the promise of God’s Word, “by His stripes she is healed.”

But [in fact] He has borne our griefs, and He has carried our sorrows and pains; yet we [ignorantly] assumed that He was stricken, struck down by God and degraded and humiliated [by Him]. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was crushed for our wickedness [our sin, our injustice, our wrongdoing]; the punishment [required] for our well-being fell on Him, and by His stripes (wounds) we are healed. Isaiah 53:4-5, AMP.

Right from the source — God’s Word.

Psalm 27:14 gives us biblical instruction on how to overcome discouragement: “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!” We are to wait on the Lord with hope, with expectancy, like a pregnant woman awaits the blessed day for the birth of her child.

Consider the word “wait” in a different manner, not just a s a period of time passing by waiting for something to happen, but to wait to serve the Lord.

In the Gospel according to John, our beloved Jesus comforts us with His words in John 14:1, “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.”
  2. Worship Him in spirit and in truth. Jesus tells us in John 4:24, “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
  3. Pray in the Spirit and encourage yourself. Apostle Paul instructs us in First Corinthians 14:4 (NIV) how to encourage ourselves. He says, “Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church.”
  4. Perfect the love of God in you by His Word. Apostle John writes to us in First John 2:5 (NIV), “But if anyone obeys His word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in Him.”

If you follow these simple steps, you will find your Source of encouragement in Christ and overcome the enemy’s power of discouragement.

Scripture Helps

Know the Basic Signs of the End Times

Anyone with a discerning eye can see that we are in the beginning of the end. But even so, the enemy is working hard to add confusion and fear to the times that are upon us. Do you know the basic signs of the times for these last days? In Matthew 24 Jesus teaches His disciples and us how to recognize the signs of His coming and the end of the age.

Jesus first cautions us not to be deceived. He says that many false Christs will arise and lead many astray. And Paul also warns us in 2 Tim. 3:13, “But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.” If someone declares they are the Christ on this earth, be secure in the truth that they are not. Even if they perform great signs and wonders, they are not. Why? According to the Word in Titus 2:13, He will not appear to us on the earth, but He will appear to us in the clouds, and be caught up with Him, along with our fellow believers. “Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,” Titus 2:13. Again Rev. 1:7 confirms the way He will come to us on that great and glorious day, Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen. And we, who are alive will shed this earth suit and be supernaturally changed. 1 Cor. 15: 50-53 explains it like this, “Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.  Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—  in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.  For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

Next, our Lord encourages us not to be afraid because there will be wars and rumors of wars, and explains that these things must take place, but the end is not yet. Wars and rumors of wars are frightful events, but God promises us in Isa. 41:10, Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’”

He continues to speak to us about the political arena and says that nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom. He reveals to us that there will be disasters in various places such as famines and earthquakes. And makes it plain that these are not the final signs, but the beginning of birth pangs.

The world will be in chaos, and its inhabitants will be insecure not knowing how to meet their daily needs, but we have security in God’s Word that promises us that if we seek first His kingdom and all of His righteousness then all these things that we have need of will be met. Matt. 6:31-33 says, Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Did he not provide for the Israelites when they wandered in the desert for 40 years? According to the Scriptures God graciously provided for their daily needs. He supplied His people with water from the rock, see Ex. 17:5-7, it rained down manna daily, see Ex. 16:4, they had fresh meat, see Ex. 16:13, and their shoes and clothes did not wear out, see Deut. 29:5.

He then discusses with them about the individual who calls him or herself  a follower of Jesus Christ.  “Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name.”

Let’s face it, this is a very serious matter that will take every ounce of faith to overcome the temptation to recant our faith. Jesus understands this temptation all too well. In the Garden of Gethsemane He is so afraid of the torture that He is to endure for you and for me that He starts to sweat great drops of blood. He  cries out to His Heavenly Father to come up with another plan, to remove Him from this situation. Heb. 4:15 confirms this point, it says “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.”. He overcomes the power of the human will to run away from His destiny, to be selfish and to turn away from our need, to allow fear, doubt, and unbelief to control His actions, and finally surrenders to His Father’s will and lays down His life for us. Matt. 26:39 in the New King James Version of the Bible reads, “He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”

He tells us that many false prophets will rise and lead many people away from God. And Peter also warns us in 2 Pet. 2:1-3, But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.”

Women especially tend to be led astray by their emotions. The Bible warns us not to be gullible in 2 Tim. 3:5-7, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” Women, we are not to be naïve, but wise. No matter how godly, how charismatic, how charming or how appealing the one with the message may seem, we are responsible to try the spirits and judge the message against the Word of God.

Not everyone will have to confront the possibility of being martyred for their faith, but we will all face some sort of tribulation and be hated because of our faith in Jesus. He says that during this stage of the Last Days that many will fall away, and they will betray and hate one another. And because of the increase in lawlessness that most people’s love will grow cold. But He makes it clear, “But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.” See Matt. 24:13.

And this portion of Scripture closes with Jesus declaring “This gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.” See Matt. 24:14.

And just to clear up a matter of confusion, can the date of Jesus’ return be predicted? According to the Scriptures the answer is no. It states in Matt. 24:36, “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” So the next time you hear someone has figured out the exact date of Jesus’ return you know not to listen to them. Only the Father knows the exact date and time, but as we read in Matt. 24:3-15 God does want us to be aware of the season and clearly gives us the signs to look for.

I encourage you to open up the Word of God, start with Matthew 24 and ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand the basic teachings concerning the End-Times. He is faithful and true and wants you to know and recognize the basic signs of the Last Days.
