Words Can Dramatically Alter Lives

“I stand in awe many times over as I witness the prophetic healing power of the Spirit change and rearrange the lives of God’s people forever. A simple command of faith, “In Jesus’ name, I command this cancerous tumor to shrivel up and die,” and by morning the large tumor is gone and a woman’s life is dramatically altered.” Quote taken from Chapter 1, page 7, The Prophetic and Healing Power of Your Words.

I believe the Word of God when it says, “As Jesus is so are we on this earth.” See 1 John 4:17. Jesus was a man filled with faith when He walked this earth in the human form. And everything He did while here He did as we would do. He did not cheat. He did not call upon His God-powers in heaven. He left them there and came to show us how to live by faith according to the Father’s ways.

Take time to ponder upon this thought for a moment, “As Jesus is so are we on this earth.” What an amazing word from God! We are to emulate Him, act like Him, love like Him, and even speak like Him. And just how does He speak? With authority.  He was not passive with His words. He always spoke with a purpose. His words cut to the heart of the matter. He rebuked the religious, was compassionate with the hurting, He put satan and his demons in their place every time, and since His childhood on this earth was speaking in the realm of the prophetic.

He has a way with His words that dramatically alters the lives of those He comes into contact with, and so should we. We are to be like Him, and use this gift, the power of the spoken word and prophesy healing to all those in need in our arena of influence. Romans 4:17 teaches us to “call those things that are not as though they already were”, this is prophesying. And it is not as mysterious as one might think. We do it all the time, every time we open up our mouths we prophesy either life or death, see Proverbs 18:21.

With all of this in mind, perhaps we should learn to use this supernatural power, the gift of the spoken language in such a way that we create a change, alter the destiny of the lives of those around us for the glory of God. Learn how to surrender our words to Him, allow Holy Spirit to play a vibrant melody on the strings of our vocal chords.

I can teach you how to use your words to dramatically alter the lives of those around you for the glory of the Lord, especially in these last days in my new book, The Prophetic and Healing Power of Your Words. I even give you the opportunity to check out a free chapter for yourself. Or click here to purchase your copies now.

Faith Comes by Hearing God’s Word

Many years ago when I first started fulfilling my calling as a healing evangelist, the Lord gave me clear instructions. I was to first teach the people why they could believe for their healing and how to receive it. And that’s exactly what I do, teach and then minister.

I am a firm believer that we need to give the people a reason to believe, a foundation for their faith. And this foundation is found only in the Word of God. His Word tells us that So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God,” Romans 10:17.  And it is this hearing by the word of God that I want to focus on in this devotional.

It says that faith comes by hearing. This word hearing in Greek means the act of hearing, listening with our physical ears, (G189, Strong’s). Faith comes when we hear the word of the Lord. And it goes on to say, “and hearing by the word of God”. The meaning of this word, “word” is rhēma, and it is a supernatural understanding of a topic. And in this situation it is a supernatural understanding of the healing word that I am imparting to the participants at these healing seminars. But first the attendees must be willing to come and sit under the healing word and hear with their physical ears. And when they fully surrender their physical ears to the word of God, then their spiritual ears open up and the things that were hidden are made known and their faith arises to the occasion. As with the following case.

I was recently in Newfoundland, Canada teaching about healing and ministering it to the people. One particular night there was a definite anointing for the healing of deaf ears. Whether the person was deaf since birth, or by nerve damage or some other event, by the power of the Holy Spirit deaf ears were being opened.  There must have been about 10-12 people standing next to each other in the healing line suffering from deafness. And one-by-one, all but one received immediately and their ears were opened and they were hearing with delight.

Why is this? It is because the rhēma word was being taught and they first surrendered their way of beliefs or unbeliefs, their lack of knowledge concerning  healing to the Father in the name of Jesus. They opened up their physical ears and the revelation of the healing word entered in as I spoke, into their spiritual ear, and it took root within the spiritual heart, and they began to speak and believe, act out faith for their deliverance and healing from deafness.

I believe the same is true in reverse. When we become spiritually dry, dead within our spirits, and we stop inclining our physical ear to hear the Word of the Lord, then our spiritual ear dries up. We become spiritually deaf, and we no longer hear  God’s word, our faith becomes weak, and we can become sick, even deaf in our physical ears, if we stop listening and believing the promises of God in the Bible for our healing. But these people in the testimony above heard the Good News, believed, received, and were delivered and healed from deafness.

My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh, Prov. 4: 20-22.

Has the Devil Hacked Your Spiritual Bank Account? Part 3

In part 1 and part 2 we discussed how the devil can hack into your spiritual bank account in the areas of forgiveness of iniquities, healing of diseases, redemption from a life of destruction, and stealing lovingkindness and tender mercies from your crown. Today we are going to discuss how he fills our mouths with good things.  Who satisfies your mouth with good things,” Psalm 103:5.

Luke 6:45 says, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”

The heart and the mouth are powerful instruments in the realm of faith. The mouth proclaims what is in the depths of the spiritual heart. Romans 10:8-10 confirms this and gives deeper insight to their purpose:

But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

According to this portion of Scripture, the heart believes and the mouth confesses. What does the heart believe? It believes unto righteousness–justification or right standing with God. And what does the heart confess? Confession is made unto salvation, and according o our word study in Chapter 2 this word salvation is holistic and includes healing of the spirit, soul, and body.

In Psalm 103:2-5, one of the benefits we are to remember is that He satisfies our mouths with good things. We are to take these good things and impart them to others, like faith for eternal life with Jesus, faith for deliverance from demonic oppression or possession, or faith for physical healing to name a few of the good things.

Let’s focus in on the spiritual purpose of the mouth in regard to physical healing. Now, the devil does not want us to share these good things with others. In fact, he is downright nasty, and he wants us to keep quiet about the glory of our Lord. One way he will try to gag us is with physical weapons of sickness and disease against the mouth. It is a challenge to be a mouthpiece for the Lord when your mouth is swollen or full of sores or inflicted with some other type of illness. It makes it laborious to speak out loud when the mouth is sick.

Last year, a couple of days before I would minister, my tongue would break out with canker sores. At first, I thought it was because I was dehydrated from the plane ride, and from a human standpoint it was a logical explanation. The second time it happened, I started to wonder if this was spiritual, and not physical because I made sure I drank plenty of water before, during, and after the flight. The third time it happened, I knew without a doubt I was under attack.

To break this demonic attack against the power of my tongue, my good friend Palma and I entered into a time of prayer and fasting. The stronghold was broken, and I did not have this problem again.

Another minister, Margie from Ocala, Florida, suffered from severe gum diseae. She could not eat or even touch her teeth lightly together without serious pain. But the message she heard taught at the healing service resonated deep within her spirit, she put the message of faith to the test and activated her faith. She started to bite down on her teeth. To Margie’s delight, her gums and teeth were instantly healed in Jesus’ name.

No matter how we were attacked by the enemy, we continued to confess with our mouths what we believed in our hearts to be true about the goodness of te Lord’s salvation to the people. When we were in need, we both received supernatural healing in our mouths as well.

I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great assembly, Psalm 40:10.

Has the Devil Hacked Your Spiritual Bank Account? Part 1

Has the devil hacked into your spiritual bank account? Has he stolen your heavenly benefits given to you by Jesus? I guess before we can rightly answer these questions we need to remind ourselves just what are our spiritual benefits. Let’s look to Psalm 103: 2-5 to find out.Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases,Who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. This is quite the list, let’s examine the first 3 today.

1. He forgives our iniquities. Iniquities means perversity, depravity or sin. How could the enemy steal your forgiveness? Number one, he can’t steal your forgiveness, but he will twist God’s promise to forgive to get you to believe you are not forgiven or cannot be forgiven. How does he do this? By whispering falsehoods to your mind until you accept his lies that God holds confessed sins against you. But according to 1 John 1:9, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” How do we take back what satan has hacked from our account concerning forgiveness? We have to make a quality decision to rightly judge God’s character– He does not lie and correctly divide the Word of God and call satan what he truly is–a liar, and then make the all important choice to believe–God is truth.

You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it, John 8:44.

“God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” Numbers 23:19.

2. He heals all our diseases. To heal means to cure, repair or to make whole. And Jesus healed us from all disease when He shed His blood for us at the whipping post. Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken,  smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed,” Isaiah 53:4-5.

How does satan steal our healing from us? There are many ways he does this but it is always through the way of doubt and unbelief. And what does it say in James 1:6-8 regarding doubt? But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;  he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

And do as Sarah does in Hebrews 11:11,By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.”

There comes a point in each of our lives when we have to face the fact, we either believe or we don’t. Some people have hearts that are very soft and pliable to the ways of the Lord and therefore, they readily believe the promise of God for healing and immediately receive. While others have issues that need to be worked through in order for them to believe and receive their miracle from God. But either way, God is patient and longsuffering with us and is willing to work with us wherever we are at spiritually. So I encourage you to work on your faith level–study God’s healing promises until His promise to heal is more real to you than the disease attacking your being.

3. He redeems our life from destruction. Destruction means corruption, the grave, and the pit of Hell. And redeem means to avenge and to pay ransom. To avenge is to inflict harm on behalf of (oneself or someone else previously wronged or harmed). And Jesus definitely did so for us at Calvary. And He paid ransom with His blood to redeem us from the clutches of the enemy.

How can the enemy steal this redemption from people? By causing them not to believe and receive this plan of redemption that He so richly gave to us.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16.

Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3.

The Lord does not delay [as though He were unable to act] and is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is [extraordinarily] patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9, AMP.

The Bible tells us in Romans 10:9-10 that, “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.1 John 5:13-14.

Ultimately, it is your decision to receive or to reject His plan of redemption. I pray you will make the right choice and believe and receive Jesus as your Savior this day.

In closing, in order to prevent satan from stealing our benefits, or to take back what he has stolen from us we have to make a decision with each of the benefits to believe God’s Word and live according to the faith we have in His ways. It’s our decision to believe or not, but wisdom tells us that God’s ways are best for us and for those around us. We will continue on in activating our spiritual benefits in the next post. For now, make sure you do your part in these first 3 benefits–believe and receive them.

I’m Here to Help You Heal, In Jesus’ Name.

The Importance of Healing In the Last Days

Never underestimate the power of healing, whether it be your healing or the healing of another in these last days. Healing points to the Messiah. It proves that the God you have been professing all these years is real. This is why the enemy fights so hard against this message. He is afraid of the fruit of Salvation that is harvested through healing.

Take the limits off of God about who can and who cannot be healed. Throughout all these years of ministering healing to people around the world, I stand amazed at just who receives their healing and who doesn’t receive what God has for them. I have witnessed the most rebellious people on the streets receive instant healing, and they are so amazed that in the midst of all their rebellion that someone reached out in the name of Jesus’ and they were healed.

I’m speaking about one man from the streets of Guatemala who was waiting to have an operation to amputate digits because gangrene had set in real bad, and they were instantly healed and when he climbed up on the operating table the doctors were wondering why he was even there.

Another young rebellious teenage boy screaming obscenities in our faces because he hated who we represented–God, but when his freshly broken arm (that had been broken in a gang fight earlier that day) was instantly healed, he stopped his filthiness and was able to listen and hear us.

How about all the young kids with STD on the streets that were instantly healed. How about the dead baby in the womb of a young prostitute that came back to life instantly when healing hands were placed upon the womb of that young, lost lady. These miraculous healings testify louder than our words that God is alive and well and he loves and cares about them.

God is just waiting for us to activate our faith on behalf of other people. And when we do–great things happen.

How about your next door neighbor? You hear that they are sick and dying from cancer. What are you going to do about it? Will you take the risk of rejection and reach out in the name of the Lord and share the love of God with them through a healing touch? Do you understand the impact you can start to have all around you in these last days?

Romans 15:18-19 says to us,For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not accomplished through me, in word and deed, to make the Gentiles obedient— in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

If you will wield the power of signs and wonders you can win both Jew and Gentile in greater numbers to the Lord in these last days.

Redeemed From the Enemy’s Hand

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,” Psalm 107:2. According to the word of the Lord we’ve been redeemed from the hand of the enemy. Do we believe it? Or do we still under estimate the power of the Lord within us? At first many will respond with a reassuring response, “No!”. But when difficulties designed by the enemy come our way to steal, to kill, and to destroy us, many of God’s people cave into the attack of the enemy, and often without any form of resistance. This response to satan’s tactics is not right. We are to believe what God says about His redemptive hand upon us. And what does He say about our redemption from our enemy?

“When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt, is with you,” Deuteronomy 20:1-4. Do not to be afraid of the size of the attack or being outnumbered, in this case the number of people rising against you. And I want to encourage you that sometimes the enemy is not people rising against you at all, but it could be a disease, the cell count of HIV or other disease in your body. No matter the number rising against your health and life, don’t be afraid, because God is with you.

“Listen, all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: thus says the LORD to you, ‘Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God’s,” 2 Chronicles 2:15. Again, don’t be afraid of the size of the multitude rising against you, no matter if the multitude is people or sickness or some other form of attack, remember the battle belongs to the Lord. And according to the Scriptures Jesus won the battle for us at Calvary. “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ,” 1 Corinthians 15:57.

“For by their own sword they did not possess the land, And their own arm did not save them, But Your right hand and Your arm and the light of Your presence, For You favored them,” Psalm 44:3-7. These battles are not won in our own strength, but in His, and in His manifested presence. “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty,” Zachariah 4:6.

Clearly throughout Scripture our God paid the price through His Son, our Redeemer Jesus Christ paid the price for our victory, and now it is up to us to trust in His righteous right hand upon us to uphold and deliver us through these vicious attacks of the enemy in whatever form they attack us.

“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win,” 1 Corinthians 9:24. If you will run your race according to God’s Word you will live in the victory He provided for us.

But as with any and all promises of God it is a choice to live victoriously. “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus,” Philippians 3:4.

And the only way to victory against our enemy, satan is by our faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ. “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world–our faith,” 1 John 5:4.

And He has given everything we need to overcome the wicked attacks of the enemy, His authority (See Luke 10:19), His supernatural power, unconditional love, and the mind of Christ (See 2 Timothy 1:7), His resurrection power (see Romans 8:11), the power of faith (see Hebrews 11:1), the supernatural strength in joy (see Nehemiah 8:10b), and life and healing in His Word (Proverbs 4:20-22), and so much more.

Be confident and speak the truth that you are victorious in Christ, and no matter what comes your way you’ll fight the good fight of faith and complete the race as one who knows they are redeemed by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, see Revelation 12:11.

Deliverance From a Spirit of Addiction

Addiction is real, it’s like a giant size wrecking ball destroying individuals, marriages, families, businesses, ministries, communities, cities, and even nations. It’s wrecking havoc in the lives of people throughout this entire earth,  including the body of Christ. We can see the suffering it causes within the soul, (the mind and emotions), and in the physical realm. But what the world, and oftentimes the Church refuses to address is the root of the problem, the spirit. And until the spiritual aspect of this widespread epidemic is attended to people will continue to be enslaved to the addiction and it’s destructive behaviors and results.

Addiction is more than spiritual, it’s an evil spirit–a demon that has taken control of the mind and the emotions and works it’s evil into the physical realm of the individual and all those that they come into contact with. But even though, humanly speaking, the situation looks impossible, it is not. There is hope–His name is Jesus Christ, and with  Him all things are possible, including freedom from addiction.

To be free from addiction one needs to be delivered in the name of Jesus and by the power of His blood. Why does one need to be delivered in the name of Jesus? Because according to God’s Word, “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father,” Philippians 2:10-11. And when we have the revelation that addiction is a demon, our faith can arise to the occasion and take our God-given authority in the name that is above every name and demand this evil spirit out of ourselves, and/or loved ones.

Also, to be free from addiction one needs to be delivered by the power of the blood of Jesus. Why? According to Isaiah 53:4-5 Jesus was whipped and shed His blood so we could be healed in spirit, soul, and in body. When we spend the time and rightly divide the Word, we can determine that the translations of Isaiah 53:4-5 is holistic. That the atonement, the redemptive blood of Jesus, does in fact provide spiritual, emotional, and physical healing. (For a greater understanding see chapter 2, pages 33-41, in The Healing Creed.) This includes deliverance from demonic forces that come to steal, to kill, and to destroy us, see John 10:10.

Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:4-5.

Deliverance from addictions come in all forms. It depends upon the strength and familiarity of the demon. In other words, how long has the person been walking hand-in-hand with this demon? And how far into the darkness of sinful behavior has this person willingly gone with this evil spirit?

Sometimes all it takes is a prayer of repentance and the person is free from demonic behavior, because it’s just that–ungodly behavior. But other times the demon does not want to let go of the person, because it inhabits, possesses the individual, and it’s not going to leave it’s abode without a spiritual fight.

Now you notice I said a “spiritual fight”. You cannot force a demon out of someone with physical force or physical means, it’s a spiritual battle. For example, screaming at the demon, or physically slapping the individual does nothing to the demon. In fact, the demon is enjoying your display of ignorance and it wants you to make that person suffer more. It knows at that point you do not know who you are in Christ, and you are unaware of the authority in the name and in the blood of Jesus that you have been given.

To force this demon to leave you will have to create a spiritual atmosphere that the demon cannot handle being in. This means you will have to activate spiritual weapons that are supernaturally stronger than it is.

DEMONS OBEY THE FOLLOWING:

1. The authority of the name of Jesus.that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,” Philippians 2:10.

2. The supernatural activation of the power of the blood of Christ. “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed,” Isaiah 53:5.

3. And they will obey you when they know that you clearly understand that you have dominion over them. “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you,” Luke 10:19.

TO CREATE THE RIGHT ATMOSPHERE YOU WILL NEED TO:

1. Spend time in prayer and fasting. “So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting,” Matthew 17: 20-21.

2. Activate the fruits of the Spirit. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law,” Galatians 5:22-23.

3. Pray in the Holy Spirit.

  • You need to activate supernatural power over the enemy – But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth,” Acts 1:8.
  • The Holy Spirit will pray through you what is needed – Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God,” Romans 8:26-27.
  • You need to keep yourself strong throughout the entire battle. –He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church,” 1 Corinthians 14:4.

4. And you will need to kick out the doubters and unbelievers from the place. You may actually need to leave the place that is familiar to the one possessed by the demon and bring them into your territory where hopefully is saturated with the presence of the Lord. When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing, He said to them, “Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him. But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose. And the report of this went out into all that land,” Matthew 9:23-26.

AFTER THE DELIVERANCE YOU WILL NEED TO:

After the deliverance has taken place you must do the following as we are taught in Matthew 12:43-45 to keep the demons from returning. “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order.  Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.”

  • Renew your mind and your ways as you read God’s Word. My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings.
Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life,” Proverbs 4:20-23.
  • Develop relationship with God as you pray (talk to God) in your natural language and build yourself up as you pray in the Holy Spirit. “Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you,” Jeremiah 29:12. And again in 1 Corinthians 14:4a, He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself .”
  • Keep the spiritual atmosphere clean as you listen to praise and worship music.See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,  redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,  speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,  submitting to one another in the fear of God,” Ephesians 5:15-21.

If you will work these Scriptures out to the fullest you will find the freedom from addiction that you and your loved one so desire.

God’s Word and Your Health

Gaining and maintaining good health is of utmost importance, but did you ever stop to think about the importance of God’s Word to accomplish this goal? Most would answer they never considered the connection between good health and God’s Word, but it is the most important element to obtaining good health.

Here’s what God’s Word has to say concerning our health and the Scriptures.

“My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.” Proverbs 4: 20-24.

A life founded upon the Scriptures is a life that prospers and remains protected from the attacks of the evil one. And remaining in the healing Scriptures keeps one strong and healthy. God’s Word produces life in your mortal body, and keeps your mind and emotions healthy.

Knowing this, it is wisdom to incorporate the study of God’s healing Word into your daily wellness routine. In fact, God’s Word is to be the center of this routine. And no matter what your schedule may be, God’s Word needs to be at the top of the list. The most important supplement you can take is the Word of God. It gives you life and health to all your flesh.

You have a coach, the Holy Spirit. He will lead you and guide you into all truth. See John 16:13. You have been given the means to encourage yourself when you feel weak in the faith in this, “He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself,” 1 Cor. 14:4a.

Is Addiction a Disease?

This is the first of a series about addiction of all forms. We are going to look at this difficult situation through the eyes of truth found throughout God’s Word. Today, we are going to look at this and ask ourselves what is it? Is it as the world says–a disease? Or is it something else?

Is addiction a disease? This is a good question. The world claims that it is, but what about God? What does His Word have to say about this? Let’s search out the Scriptures to find out.

Let’s begin with the basics. The dictionary definition of addiction is the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma.1

The world of psychology believes that addiction is a disease. Here is a direct quote from the American Society of Addiction Medicine, “Addiction is a primary, chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory and related circuitry. Dysfunction in these circuits leads to characteristic biological, psychological, social and spiritual manifestations. This is reflected in an individual pathologically pursuing reward and/or relief by substance use and other behaviors.

Addiction is characterized by inability to consistently abstain, impairment in behavioral control, craving, diminished recognition of significant problems with one’s behaviors and interpersonal relationships, and a dysfunctional emotional response. Like other chronic diseases, addiction often involves cycles of relapse and remission. Without treatment or engagement in recovery activities, addiction is progressive and can result in disability or premature death.”2

I agree with most of this explanation except for the following words, chronic disease of brain reward, and like other chronic diseases. The world has pridefully removed God from life, except when there is a tragedy, then they remember God and place the blame on Him. Which in essence is refusing to accept responsibility for your wrong doings and placing the blame on someone or something other than yourself.

This same scenario took place back in Genesis when Adam and Eve’s lust for the forbidden fruit was manifested and found out. Neither accepted the blame for their own disobedience to God’s rules, but instead passed the blame to someone else. This is interesting and still happens today.

“And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” Genesis 3: 8-13.

The chain of blame holds people in bondage as we see here. Adam blames Eve for giving him the forbidden fruit, but in reality blames God for giving him the woman in the first place. And so often we will hear people jokingly blame it all on Eve, but as we study out the Scriptures Adam was there when she ate of the fruit. “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.” Gen. 3:6. Adam could have rebuked Eve and told her no, but he did not. He was an accomplice to this crime before he ate of the forbidden fruit for himself. And then we look at this passage again and think, “Wow! That’s very arrogant of Adam to speak so disrespectfully to God and tell Him that He’s responsible for this mess.”

Allow me to challenge you with this common response, “I will not accept the fact that the devil put this sickness upon me. I refuse to say that I was overtaken by the devil, but it was God who permitted this, and this is the reason why I am sick.” Just like Adam, people blame God for their troubles all the time.

Let’s go back to Adam’s first crime, and where did it begin? Sin begins in the mind, in the realm of our thoughts. And if we do not do as the Word instructs us, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.” 2 Cor. 10:4-6. Satan planted the seed of temptation to disobey in Adam’s mind with negative words, and he dwelt on this thought and acted upon it and sinned against God.

The Bible tells us in James 1:14, “Each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.” Ponder upon the way this verse is written in the Amplified Version of the Bible, “But each one is tempted when he is dragged away, enticed and baited [to commit sin] by his own [worldly] desire (lust, passion).”

Now, let’s backtrack just a bit. It wasn’t just Adam that did not accept the blame for his sinful actions, Eve did the same. When God asked her why she had committed this sin, she blamed the serpent who tempted her. The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” Gen. 3:13. How often do we hear people say, “The devil made me do it!” No, satan did not make you sin. Yes, he tempted you, but you made the decision to sin all on your own. You are responsible for your sin.

1 Corinthians 10:13 clears this matter up of about who is responsible here, “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”

I can hear your contradicting thoughts, you argue, “That’s easy for God to say, He’s God. He’s a supernatural being. He doesn’t know what it’s like for us here on earth.” And I respond to you and say, “You are wrong. He does understand exactly what you are going through.” Hebrews 4:15 explains how Jesus was tempted when He walked this earth in human form,For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.”

Do you think the temptations Jesus had to overcome were somehow easier than what you need to overcome? Back in Jesus day there was rebellion, lying, cheating, stealing, murder, prostitution, and other sexual sins, drunkenness… and this list goes on and on, just as it does today. Not only did He show you by personal example that it is possible to overcome temptation, He loved you so much that He took it a step further in the Garden of Gethsemane. He was about to enter into His final hours on this earth, and be slaughtered because of our sin, to redeem us from it and its consequences, such as sickness and disease and other forms of the curse. Let’s read this portion of Scripture from the Book of Luke, chapter 22, verses 41-44.

“And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.”

As we study this out, we see that Jesus was being tempted by the enemy, satan, not to fulfill the plan of atonement for us. And I personally believe this was the greatest temptation of all time, but even though He was being tempted, He did not sin. And what I teach people with this portion of Scripture is that it was at this point-in-time that Jesus overcame the human will so that we could overcome it as well.

We are talking about biblically overcoming addiction in this series of articles, and no matter what the addiction is, whether it is an addiction to drugs, alcohol, sex, pornography, gambling, food… you have the ability with God to overcome any and all forms of addiction. But we must look at addiction through the eyes of truth. According to the Word in John 8:32, You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Blaming others, and bad situations in life does not help, and calling addiction a disease does not set you free either. In the natural disease needs medicine or medical treatments, you do not overcome addiction by becoming addicted to something else.  And calling addiction a disease does not set you free, it gives you an excuse to continue on in the choice of your sinful addictive behavior.
